The first time we saw the 1 GB badge on the Palit 8500Gt we did a double take to make sure - this is a lot of memory to waste on a core that has 16 stream processors. We figure half this memory will be sitting around doing nothing - after all, we have seen most 8600GT with 256MB of memory working fine with huge textures.
The card does with a minimal cooling setup-circular heat sink with an embedded fan. Benchmarking the 8500Gt showed that our predictions were right. The core does not have enough horse power to keep the memory busy. However at higher resolutions were able to get couple of extra frames when compared to other 8500 cards. Overall this gets only 3 out of 5 stars.
